Modular build is a modern, fast and effective way to construct buildings that not only meet high quality standards, but also come at a reduced cost.
Just like traditional build the end product is the same; however a modular build requires less time spent on site constructing the building because the structure is built in a factory off site and shippped to site where it is assembled in to a water tight structure.
This allows both internal and external trades to work simultaneously and cut out weeks (if not months) of preliminary costs as well as labour costs.
The time saving element makes modular builds an attactive option, and an increasing number of projects are being delivered this way, rather than the traditional build.
Some of the uses include NHS hospitals, doctors, offices, laboratories, morgues, even search and rescue bases – the uses are endless.
As well as saving time and money, because of the way these buildings are constructed it allows more scope for insulation products to fit – this effectively makes the end products a lot more energy efficient than traditional builds, and allows for the savings to continue.
Gainsborough Crematorium ceiling was brought to my attention as an opportunity for Dry Wall Grid, (DGS) This was an intricate ceiling that looked at the outset like it would be a difficult installation using standard MF top hat and channel. Working with the Main Contractor Willmott Dixon on the design using the DGS showing how the system can be shaped to form the detail required and providing pictures of a similar installation the plans were drawn up. Once this was agreed with the Main Contractor I returned to site to go through the installation with Simons team on site.
We worked through the installation together and the fixing teams were confident of the installation process. Once the site teams started the installation it was apparent that this was indeed the correct solution and the easiest way to install such a detailed ceiling. Looking at the pictures of the finished installation I think it is testament to the collaboration between all involved in the process and the skill of the installation team.
It was a pleasure to work with Simon and his team, experience and an open minded approach to something new created the opportunity to use a product that will form the future of MF installations of all types. The opportunity to build details off site offers increased health and safety and reduced working at height along with less waste material and the ability to get tight to soffit if required.
Thank you to Simon and his team for their time and effort and seeing the finished ceiling to such a high standard installed by quality fixers was a pleasure to be involved with. I am looking forward to the next one.
